How to be the best mystery diner

Becoming a mystery diner  is a great way to support your favourite local restaurants. It helps them stay competitive and improve their customer service, while you get to eat good food for free!

At Tipps, we call our mystery diners Tippsters. So what does it take to become a good Tippster?

Choose a restaurant with food you like

You should choose a restaurant that serves food you enjoy. If you don't like seafood, then it will be difficult for a seafood restaurant to impress you with their dishes!

Be observant

The first thing you'll want to do is observe the restaurant, the food, the staff and the customers. Notice how they interact with each other and with you.

Notice the décor, ambience and layout of the restaurant. Is it clean? Do they have a separate outside area or terrace? Are there any interesting menus on display?

Most importantly of all: notice how friendly everyone seems! If something is wrong with your meal, ask yourself if it's because someone forgot something or if it was because something was wrong in their kitchen.

Take good photos

If you've ever taken a picture with the camera on your phone, then you know that it's easy to take photos that are either too dark or blurry.

Make sure the photo is clear and well-lit before posting it.

Remember to take the photo of what is required, often before you start eating and often without lids on if you have a takeaway.

Take your time

The best Tippsters are those who take their time. You should read the questions carefully, think about your answers, and type them in slowly. And when it comes to eating the food? It's best to take your time with that too.

While you're doing all this, remember that our WhatsApp questions are designed to allow you to continue chatting with us while completing your mystery diner tasks. So if at any time during an assignment you have a question or need some guidance from us, just press "Contact Us" on our website and we'll be there.

You can contribute a lot by being dedicated and honest.

If you want to make the mystery diner's job more rewarding and help the restaurant, be honest with your answers and feedback.

Enjoy the experience

In the end, you're helping these restaurants to become better places for diners, and that's a great thing. That's why I recommend this as a hobby—it can be a lot of fun and it can also give you all sorts of stories to tell at parties.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed this blog post, and we’re excited to see what feedback you come up with at your next mystery dining mission! There are so many ways to use your powers for good, and we love that our missions give people the chance to do just that. If you have any questions about how it works or want more tips on how to be a great Tippster, don’t hesitate to reach out.
